The Google Pixel has been released by Google, and its one o the best
android smartphones out there (Maybe the best, considering the untimely death
of the Galaxy Note 7). And the competition is straight up the iPhone 7 and the
7 Plus, this is the time Google has actually taken Apple head on, they even
teased Apple for removing the headphone jack in the Pixel commercial, to subtle
references such as 'No camera bump' and some other references.
CNET official Brian Tong in his video (Which he is really good in, by the way), compared the Google Pixel XL and the iPhone 7 Plus by 4 margins : Design (The design of both the Pixel and iPhone 7 is really similar by the way), Features, Camera and Performance. Guess what, the Pixel XL won! Taking leads in Performance and Camera, while iPhone excelled in Features (I don't really agree with that!), and the Design battle ending in a tie.
That competition might not be definitive but actually would be helpful for anyone, specs on the other hand, are misleading, and often not really fully understood by the average person. But we're going to throw them in anyway.
The Pixel XL just has a bigger screen and a bigger battery.
So the Pixel XL boasts of a headphone jack ( ), well, the 'CLAIMED' best camera in any smartphone (Many Youtubers, including CNET channel have put Pixel's camera to the test, and the results show that it actually is the best!)
The Pixel comes with two standout features: Unlimited storage
for all your photos and videos in original resolution in Google Photos (Google
Photos actually allows unlimited storage of photos in reduced quality, if you
want to store in the actual resolution, you use your Google Drive storage) and
The Google Assistant, built in, first phone to do that. There are areas where Pixel does fall short, its only IP53 water and dust resistant, which is like the bare minimum a flagship can ever be, compared to IP67 water resistance offered by the iPhone 7 and 7 plus, there is no expandable storage, and there is no mid=range option, and lastly, the price is really high (But so is the price of the iPhone).
So when it comes to the definitive answer, yes the Pixel and Pixel XL are in fact just slightly or rather insignificantly better than their latest iPhone counterparts. But after all, all this depends on the ecosystem you like, if simple, the iPhone is for you, and if you like customisability and latest delicacies Android has to offer, the Pixel smartphones are for you!
